PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
VIBA-FLEX is a two-component polymer-modified cementitious waterproofing coating designed to protect concrete structures against water ingress, moisture, chloride ion penetration, and attack from acidic and alkaline gases. Once cured, it forms a flexible, durable, and waterproof membrane. VIBA-FLEX is a blend of cement, synthetic materials, polymer, and silica sand in powder form. The liquid component consists of a polymer emulsion and wetting catalysts.
FEATURES
■ High flexibility. Thermal expansion coefficient similar to concrete.
■ Excellent adhesion to both porous and non-porous surfaces.
■ High mechanical and physical performance.
■ Suitable for areas with low traffic.
■ High durability under long-term weathering and excellent UV resistance.
■ Non-toxic – safe for use in potable water systems.
■ Resists carbon dioxide penetration and chloride ion diffusion (forms a membrane that blocks carbonation on concrete surfaces – 1mm of membrane offers carbonation resistance equivalent to 75cm of concrete).
APPLICATION RANGE
■ Used as a waterproofing and protective coating for:
■ Pile heads
■ Internal waterproofing of potable water tanks and other water-retaining structures before tiling or finishing
■ Protection of exposed concrete structures such as bridge decks and exterior walls from carbonation and chloride attack
■ Inverted roofs, inspection and lifting shafts, swimming pools, overflow dams
■ Waterproofing of marble and granite surfaces against water infiltration
■ General structural waterproofing: balconies, loggias, bathrooms
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application temperature: 4°C to 45°C. Procedure may slightly vary depending on project conditions. General guidance includes:
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Surface must be sound and free from oil, grease, loose particles, dust, or other contaminants that could affect adhesion. All cracks and voids must be repaired beforehand. The treated surface should be saturated with water, but any standing water must be removed before application.
Step 2: Mixing
VIBA-FLEX is supplied in pre-packaged two components to be mixed on-site. Mix only as much material as can be used within its pot life. Mix ratio: 2.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid (by weight). Pour the liquid component into a suitable container and slowly add the powder. Mix using a slow-speed mechanical mixer (300–400 rpm) with a suitable paddle until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.
Step 3: Application
Apply at least 2 coats of VIBA-FLEX. Each coat should be applied at a rate of 1–1.2 kg/m², forming a dry film thickness of 0.5 mm. Application can be done using a brush, roller, or spray. While the first coat is still wet, fiberglass mesh can be embedded at corners and joints for reinforcement. The second coat should be applied after the first coat has dried completely (6–8 hours at 25°C).
PROTECTION
Full protection of the waterproof layer is required under the following conditions:
■ Areas subject to mechanical abrasion
■ Water flow zones
■ Water-retaining structures with depth >1m
■ Reinforcement mesh to be embedded between 2 coats in structures deeper than 1m
CURING
The waterproof layer must be cured to avoid rapid drying due to sunlight or wind exposure. Use damp cloths or fine mist spray for at least 72 hours after the surface dries. Full mechanical properties are achieved after 28 days at 25°C.
CLEANING
Clean all tools with water immediately after use. Hardened product must be removed by mechanical means.
COVERAGE
1.2 kg per coat per m² results in a 1 mm dry film thickness when applied in 2 coats.
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
Store under cover, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Powder bags should be kept on pallets and not stacked directly on the floor.
Shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions and unopened packaging. Failure to follow storage instructions may lead to deterioration or reduced product life.
HEALTH & SAFETY
As with all construction chemicals, caution must be exercised. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and safety glasses. In case of skin or eye contact, rinse immediately with clean water. If ingested, may not cause nausea, but seek medical attention immediately.
